The white city by Skagerrak", is today considered one of the best-preserved wooden town in Europe. Risør has a long tradition of building wooden boats, which you can see during the Wooden Boat Festival every summer. Risør also hosts several international festivals.

In the lovely Strandgata you will feel as if you are in far more southern latitudes. Some of Norway's most beautiful outdoor restaurants are located here, close to the sea.

Risør has a proud past as one of the country's largest maritime towns, and those who live here have extensive experience in boat building. To celebrate this long tradition they organize the Risør wooden boat festival in August every year.

Risør is known as a city of art and culture, and has several exciting galleries where artists work actively.

The town also has several exciting niche shops where you can look for rare treasures.

The best way to explore the archipelago is of course by boat. But you don't have to own your own. Little Danmark, a family-friendly beach on Risøya, is just a short ferry ride away with the Øisang ferry, Norway's oldest car ferry.

MF Øisang was built at Moen båtbyggeri, where you can now also find the Risør Coastal Culture Centre. Here you can learn more about the region's boat building traditions while the children make their own boats or fish for crabs from the jetty. And speaking of the delicacies of the sea …

At restaurants such as Risør Fiskemottak, it is naturally the day's catch that applies. By the way, they also have a shop where you can buy fresh prawns.
